Girton Village Parish Council, the Town Charity and enthusiastic residents have been working to establish a Flat Green Bowling Club for more than ten years. Everyone was delighted when in autumn 2013 construction began on a new Green on Wellbrook Way. The Green and its surrounding area will remain a community facility looked after by the Parish Council, with the support of the Club members. The adjacent new Community Centre will be built by the Town Charity in due course and Outline Planning Permission has now been granted by the District Council (the club aims to play indoor carpet bowls through the winter months).
An Interim Club Committee was established in 2013 (a mix of players and novices) and its eight members were busy developing plans for the new club. The first full Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 11th January 2014 in the Girton Glebe School Hall and 45 local people paid their membership dues to become founder members of the club.
The Club Constitution was accepted and our first elected Committee was voted in (Jan 2014).
The AGM in November 2015 made some amendments to the Constitution and voted in a new Committee for the new year, with Dave Fryer as Chairman and Margaret McCall as Secretary.
2016 Constution here
The Committee plans for the future include the on-going maintenance of the grass, hedges and surrounding area and setting up the club in the new Community Centre Social occasions and fundraising events will follow, with opportunities to coach new recruits to the game and those looking to improve.
The Committee is keen that the Club remain as open as possible to all ages, skills and abilities.
